Finger Lickin' Good

This video makes me want to get a deep fryer. The video comes from a Guardian article by Tim Hayward about efforts to reverse engineer the KFC recipe. On camera, he makes and compares KFC chicken, the reverse engineered recipe, and a version that was crowd-sourced from the Internet. After watching this, I'm now very hungry.

Moreover, though, this article and video makes me curious about acquiring some MSG powder to play with in my food. A rather controversial ingredient, MSG is a naturally occurring flavor component in food that can be extracted, packaged, and added to food (it's a common practice in Chinese cooking). It heightens the flavor but has also been shown (not entirely conclusively) to be linked to obesity (probably b/c it increases deliciousness in food (no, seriously)). The other thing I learned from this was that MSG is more widely available than I thought. I may buy some and try adding it to my Kung Pao chicken recipe. Cool.

In addition to the MSG, I think I'm going to have to break my "no deep frying" policy (you'd have one, too, if you'd scalded your arm frying eggplant) and make some of this chicken. Yum.
