Day 13 Suit (Grey Birdseye Suit by Calvin Klein; Birdseye Shirt by Sean John; Striped Tie by Perry Ellis; Socks by Happy Socks)

I missed getting a picture of the suit last Friday, so this is the outfit from Monday (sorry for these coming out so late; the job market and grading are in full swing at the moment).

I wanted to talk a little bit more about tie bars. I've been having some fun with the new one, although the tie I wore on Thursday wasn't actually wide enough to use it.

One advantage of tie bars: on Wednesday, after three straight days wearing the tie bar, I leaned in to drink from a water fountain on campus and didn't stop to catch my tie b/c I was getting used to the tie bar. Of course, my tie bar wasn't on and I ended up with a wet tie! Ugh.

One disadvantage of the tie bar: on Monday, when I wore this outfit, I was getting off of the bus and I managed to catch my hand between my shirt and my tie as I was reaching to pick up my bag. The tie bar flew off like a golden missile and I had to scramble to get it picked up while rushing off the bus. It was unpleasant.

All told, this further reiterates my point in the last post on tie bars: wearing a suit involves learning how to do all these new things. You would think a suit is just another article of clothing, but it really does demand a different set of behaviors.
