- Day 7 Suit (Grey Birdseye Suit by Calvin Klein; Check Shirt by Gap; Polka Dot Tie by Gap; Black Rain Coat by Ralph Lauren)
First day wearing a suit in the rain! It went pretty well. I had some problems with the sleeves on my rain coat not being quite long enough (curse my long arms). Also, my new Florsheim Gaffney boots came through with flying colors. Love them! Things will be easier when the fancy umbrella that Shawna bought me as an early Christmas present arrives from England.
In any case, one thing I was thinking about for this semester is how to tell if I'm actually having a better semester and how to tell if it's the result of the suit. As the article that originally inspired this project suggested, the suit could help increase student involvement and ease class discussion. So far, this semester is going like most semesters: I have one really great class and one that is kind of a dud (although the dud class is mostly fault of my tropical classroom).
I'm curious what you readers think might be ways to specifically attribute changes to a professional appearances and what sort of things I should be looking for in my students to detect a difference. I feel like to be able to make some kind statement about the effectiveness (regarding student / classroom interaction) of the suit. So, what do you think?
